How do know if I need both springs replaced?

Springs break with usage, not age. Most torsion springs ( the type used on sectional roll-up doors ) will last about 15,000 cycles ( up and down = 1 cycle ) For a typical family using the garage door for one auto, these springs will last about 5 years.
Most springs have a date code of manufacturing or a date it was made. We can examine this date and compare it to the date of the spring that is broken and tell you if they were manufactured near or at the same period of time. If they were and the spring is older then 3 years, we will recommend you to replace it.
