The basic garage door today is mostly constructed of mild steel in the 27 to 24 gauge range. Some Manufacturers use a thinner steel material and build in extra support to give the door strength and durability. Basic designs typically are rows of either square or rectangle raised panels. These doors can be mass produced in common sizes and installed for a reasonable price. There is nothing wrong with a basic design and in fact they are still the most popular doors sold. Adding a window trim can really enhance the doors look and feel.
Are varied nearly as much as styles and designs. Steel and metal doors are very popular for the price and value. Fiberglass is another choice but the cost will go up quickly. Wood doors can have a basic design and can be reasonably prices; however they will require some additional maintenance due to the natural product. Aluminum and glass doors are becoming more common and can really add a unique look to your home. Even some companies make a copper door. For ease of maintenance the steel doors are best.
